Yeomans Bus Fire

Post by AdamH » 19:10 Thursday 28th November 2024

There is a video circulating today that shows a Yeomans Solo on fire. Can't make out the registration number from the photos I've seen, but I suspect it's written off.

Attached is a link to The Traffic Commissioners regulatory decision revoking the Lugg Valley / Yeomans licence from 23-59 hours on 31 December 2025 until 30 December 2029, effectively banning them from operating any PCV for four years following unacceptable maintenance standards.

Doesn't give much time to organise replacement bus operators for many rural and city routes in Herefordshire does it?

I read that report, almost in full, yesterday afternoon. It's shocking that a company that I previously believed had a good reputation have managed to get it catastrophically wrong.

Lugg Valley have been shut down by the ruling with the sole Director and Traffic Manager also being barred from holding office for 4-years. Unfortunately for the parent company, Yeomans Travel, these two people are also the sole Director and Traffic Manager of that company too, effectively leaving it without the legal appointments it needs to be able to trade.

National Express have already revoked their contract, with their routes being run by a private hire company until Tuesday when they will be formally taken over by Bennetts.

The future of this long-standing family run business does not look bright.

I ploughed through the Traffic Commissioners findings with both shock and sadness.
I only worked for the company for a short time but I certainly enjoyed it, and the NX vehicles at least seemed up to scratch. Indeed, a quick Google shows that Yeomans had been presented with several awards for both customer service and fleet condition over the past couple of years.
While you can hire in a transport manager temporarily to run your business, it certainly isn't cheap and I can't imagine Yeomans will be a place many would want to work, given the likely scale of the task of turning the business around.
A sad day.
