Birmingham (Tennant Street) depot
65 Tennant Street, Edgbaston, Birmingham
- Site used by City of Birmingham Tramways Company Limited (CBT) for horse stabling and to house horse omnibuses carriages.
- On Thursday 1st June 1905 (back-dated), Birmingham Motor Express Company Limited (BME), the Omnibus Department of Birmingham and Midland Tramways Limited (BMT), and the omnibus operations of City of Birmingham Tramways Company Limited (CBT) merged under the control of the newly formed Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO). Services acquired by BMMO continue to be operated by their original companies, as an “agent” of BMMO, until a licence to trade is granded to BMMO on Tuesday 15th August 1905. The Tennant Street site is passed to BMMO at this time and they continue to use it only for their horse omnibus operations, with motor omnibuses operating from the nearby Birmingham (Five Ways) depot, and later Bearwood depot.
- From 1912, BMMO reintroduced motor omnibuses on their operations in Birmingham. In preparation for this, the Tennant Street site was modified to accommodate all of the new vehicles and became operational in this new capacity from Saturday 25th May 1912. Initial allocation was three Tilling-Stevens TTA1 double-deck motor omnibuses (R/Nos: O 8200-8202). The site was also used as the company headquarters.
- Allocation of 73 vehicles by October 1914.
- Site and 30 vehicles sold to Birmingham Corporation Tramways in October 1914, with all staff, remaining vehicles and administration duties moving to Bearwood depot.
