Service 301: Service History

Service 301 (1925–1928)

Operated by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited

From Wednesday 4th November 1914, Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO—Midland “Red” Motor Services) operated bus services between Worcester and Bromyard, extended to Hereford in 1920. Initially this route was operated as Service 32, but with the route numbering system becoming rather chaotic the company renumbered their network into regional groups starting on Saturday 16th May 1925. Under the new route numbering system, the Worcester, Bromyard and Hereford route became new Service 301.

BMMO renumbered their network of stage carriage bus routes again on Saturday 11th February 1928. From that date, the Worcester, Bromyard and Hereford route became Service 420, and continues to use the same route number almost 100-years later.

See Service 420 for more details of the Worcester, Bromyard and Hereford route.

Service 301 (1928–1939)

Operated by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited

With the network renumbering exercise of Saturday 11th February 1928, Kidderminster Market Day Service 216 between Kidderminster and Habberley Valley became new Service 301. This service ran on Thursday and Saturday only.

By June 1929, this service had been extended to Trimpley on Thursday and Saturday, and two short-working journeys on the original route between Kidderminster and Habberley Valley had been added on Sunday. Further expansion came later in 1929, two return journeys over the full route between Kidderminster and Trimpley were introduced on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, in addition to the existing service on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

The additions from 1929 had been removed from the timetable by the start of 1931, leaving four return journeys between Kidderminster and Trimpley and Thursday, three on Saturday, and two return journeys between Kidderminster and Habberley Valley on Sunday.

Service 301 had been withdrawn by 1940.
