Service 72: Service History

Service 72 (1919–1925)

Operated by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited

on Monday 13th October 1919, Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO—Midland “Red” Motor Services) started operating services from their newly acquired Banbury depot. Initially, three vehicles were housed at the site running the following services to nearby towns and villages, typically only on Market Days.

On Saturday 16th May 1925, BMMO renumbered their entire network to allow for more expansion, with route numbers for services in Banbury starting at 350. At this time the Banbury, Middleton Cheney, and Brackley route became Service 367. The network was again renumbered in 1928, with the route becoming Service 500 at that time — the same route number that is still used today.
