Service 453: Service History

Introduction

Service 453

Service 453 has been operated by First Midland Red Buses Limited at various times under contract issued by Hereford and Worcester County Council, and later Herefordshire Council. The service runs between Hereford City Centre, Hampton Bishop, Mordiford, and Fownhope, following the same basic route as Service 466 operated by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO—Midland “Red” Motor Services) between the early 1920s and the late 1970s.

Service 453 (2014–2015)

Operated by First Midland Red Buses Limited

In 2014, First Midland Red Buses Limited won a contract issued by Herefordshire County Council to operate Service 426, Service 437, Service 446, Service 477, Service 453, and Service 454.

As part of the contract, First took over operation of daytime journeys on Service 453 from Lugg Valley Travel, Leominster, starting from Monday 1st September 2014. Prior to winning the contract, First had operated one Service 453 journey only on Saturday evenings, which also called at Hereford Rail Station and Hampton Park, but this journey was withdrawn when daytime journeys started.

First continued to operate Service 453 and Service 454 until the closure of Hereford depot after the end of operations on Saturday 5th September 2015.
