Service 387: Service History

Introduction

Service 387

From the early 1930s through to the late 1970s, Service 387 was the main regular stage-carriage bus route between Worcester, Pershore and Evesham. The route ran direct between Worcester and Pershore but diverted via Cropthorne and Charlton between Pershore and Evesham.

Service 387 (1928–1977)

Operated by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited

From introduction, Service 387 was operated by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO—Midland “Red” Motor Services) as part of a group that included Service 386 which was a short-working variation between Worcester and Pershore, and Service 388 which was a short-working variation between Evesham and Pershore.

The exact dates this group of services operated are unknown, but they were well established by 1931 so the route numbers probably originate for the BMMO renumbering exercise on Saturday 11th February 1928. By the end of 1978, the group had been withdrawn with most journeys between Worcester, Pershore and Evesham running as Service 251, so it is likely they were withdrawn with the introduction of the “Wayfarer” Viable Network Project (VNP) on Saturday 23rd July 1977.
