Service M32: Service History

Service M32 (1947–1974)

Operated by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited

New Malvern Local Service M32 was introduced by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO—Midland “Red” Motor Services) on Monday 29th September 1947. The service departed from Great Malvern (Mount Pleasant Hotel) and ran to Link Top and Belmont Church of Ascension along Worcester Road and Newtown Road, then Leigh Sinton Road to Pale Manor (later known as RRE North Site, and now Malvern Vale). It then ran a clockwise loop along Leigh Sinton Road, Tanhouse Lane, and Yates Hay Road back to Pale Manor, before returning to Great Malvern on the same route as the outbound journey. It ran Monday to Saturday, there was no Sunday service.

On Saturday 1st July 1950, Malvern Local services were revised and a Sunday service was introduced on Service M32, with the frequency increased to run every 30-minutes on other days. A minor route change also saw the service now terminate at Greenfields Road in Upper Howsell, and no longer serve Yates Hay Road.

One-man operation was introduced on Service M32 and Service M33 on Saturday 2nd May 1970. At this time, the departure stand in Great Malvern moved from opposite the Post Office to Belle Vue Terrace. This was because the exit from Church Street is blind and required the conductor to guide the bus out. Without the help of a conductor this route was not safe, and the change of departure stand meant vehicles no longer went that way. On the same date, the route for journeys towards Great Malvern changed to run via Albert Part Road, not Newtown Road, to avoid congestion.
