Special Event at Wythall 27 August 2012 Pt.I

Great set of pictures , thanks for putting them up. I had to double check Manchester 1001 , it did not look as old as a F-suffix reg. Put a F-prefix Metrobus next to it and they would look pretty similar, [to me at least].

Yes, it is amazing how some designers manage to get their buses and coaches to look timeless from the start and later designs by other companies look awkward and 'clunky' by comparison.
To my eyes LTA 729 the Royal Blue Bristol LL6B with Duple body is about as good as it gets for a half cab coach with just the right amount of polished brightwork and flowing lines that match the radiator and really suit the livery which was, and still is, one of the best around. Even that roof mounted luggage rack seems to blend in to make a classic coach with a lot of character.
How about that fabulous 100 year old London Central Leyland X2 double-decker, can you imagine driving that in a blizzard on say a 144 from Birmingham to Malvern Wells or conducting upstairs in all weathers - how about being a top-deck passenger in all weathers sitting on slatted wooden seats and feeling the road bumps via solid tyres at maximum 12 MPH! That said, the restoration job and attention to detail is as good as it gets, every replacement part has to be hand made; just look at the paint job, the different colours and every part with pinstripe lining out all by hand and eye - amazing craftsmanship.

I like the transit minibus, I remember even in the early '90s we used to have a very similar vehicle but kitted out as a mobile fruit and veg shop come round regularly when I lived in Malvern.
