£2.00 Fares
£2.00 Fares
Starting in January, for 3 months, fares across the County (and Country) will be pegged at £2.00 per single fare. So you go from Worcester to Catshill, Evesham or Malvern for £2. This was originally going to be available within the City boundary.
If this initiative is successful, plans will be made to reduce fares permanently.
So DD12, for a short time, you will get to Malvern for £4 return, happy days.

First you gave me the bad news, and then you gave me the good news !! -- thanks bmmoboy .bmmoboy wrote: ↑11:33 Monday 21st November 2022Starting in January, for 3 months, fares across the County (and Country) will be pegged at £2.00 per single fare. I hope this initiative will be well-promoted !
Re: £2.00 Fares
Good news for a change!
A similar scheme seems to have been successful so far down here.

Re: £2.00 Fares
Bristol are also taking part in the scheme, but so far no other local authority in the Stagecoach West area have opted in.
As far as I can see, nobody seems to have come up with a good exit strategy for this scheme. People will quickly learn to enjoy cheap fares on long distance route and it will be a big shock when they suddenly go back up in 3 months time. Also, short distance routes will become more expensive and I bet they don’t go back down again after!
If the scheme is forced on all operators, expect to see a lot of long distance routes that are split-registration being cut… £2 for Oxford to Cambridge on Stagecoach East Service X5 certainly wont last long!

Above link is to the latest "promotion", -- -- no sign of the £2 capped single fare yet -- I suspect it's not going to happen (??)

Re: £2.00 Fares
Stagecoach West is now taking part in this (except special services like Oxford Tube) but we were embargoed from telling anyone until the Government made their announcement in December. Even then, Stagecoach will not be promoting the offer until after it starts... I get the impression there isn't a lot of enthusiasm for the scheme!
Re: £2.00 Fares
DD12 - The £2 fare goes live from Monday - The fares that are currently below £2 will remain the same.
Re: £2.00 Fares
Thanks very much bmmoboy !
That's one or two extra visits for me, to Malvern (including the Nags Head), but as Diamond are not participating ( - thanks Tim) one or two LESS visits to the Old Bull, Inkberrow !!
I've just clicked on the above link again, and found a small confirmation of the £2 -- -- I think my large yellow pointer must have hidden it before !!
Re: £2.00 Fares
Any comments on the initiative ?? I have travelled on the 144a four time this week and loadings appear to be up. On one northbound trip I think we had 20 passengers , half of which got off at the bottom end of Rubery to get a 63 to town , of course I cannot put this down to the £2 fares or to the train strikes.
Re: £2.00 Fares
£2 bus fare cap and funding for vital services extended until 30 June 2023, which is good news, but still no media advertising to tell the public that bus travel is cheap and safe!
