Birmingham Event, Wythall
Birmingham Event, Wythall
The Transport Museum at Wythall held a very well attended Birmingham bus event today Sunday 2 October 2022. Here are some photographs of the vehicles giving rides and on show.

Here are a few more pictures taken at Wythall today.
Re: Birmingham Event, Wythall
Why do I feel the urge to buy an AEC Matador now?

Great pictures as always, Tim…thank you for sharing!
Yes, It certainly was an enjoyable day…always like the happy hours! Fair play to Aston Manor getting involved, as well as NXWM. Here’s a few pictures and clips I took yesterday, put together into a brief video…

Thank you DC54, the video clips are great and a reminder of a great day out. Glad you have included some on the road pictures of the BCT Fleetlines as I missed out with these queueing unsuccessfully twice for a ride on 486 the piano front AEC double-decker. Though Fleetlines are not my favourite buses they were very much the BCT/WMPTE workhorses in Birmingham from the late 1960s through to 1980s. I did manage one ride and the correct interior of 'nicotine' yellow and red seats with blue melamine backs still seems an odd sort of choice for a bus especially compared with lovely moquette and leathercloth BCT 'standards'; much preferred the Midland Red Fleetline maroon interior colours, even the pink upstairs ceilings! That said it is good that so many have survived and amazing how popular the Bus Museum is with all age groups - a big thank you to the organisers and volunteers for a great day sampling buses from the past.
Re: Birmingham Event, Wythall
Thank you Tim for the latest WYTHALL photos. I have seen your photos on previous occasions but have not commented. I lived, as a youngster, in Shirley but left in 1954 for Devon. Consequently my interest stopped at that time with my allegiance switched to Devon General. The MR service 179 was a local route but infrequent consequentially BCT service 29A was used most of the time. There was more of a walk but people were not bothered about that at the time.
I often stood at Snow Hill waiting for the bus and as it was Saturday often reserve buses were used. I can recall AEC Regents turning up and one one occasion a grey one. I was delighted when Wythall decided to restore 486. My favourite buses as Wythall are BCT OV 4486, HOV 685 and MR HHA 637 and SHA 431 which types, among others, I regularly travelled upon.
