I'm not a fan of either design. I drove the ex-Park+Ride Darts when they were new and always found them hard work. Like you say, they were underpowered and I always seemed to end up with an aching right leg from trying to push the accelerator pedal through the floor to get them to move.
By the time I got behind the wheel of a Pathfinder Lance they were very old and tired following a hard life in London and Bristol. I would like to think they were much better to drive when new, but I didn't like the seating position and cab layout and that wasn't a problem with old age!
