I see that this is currently out of use -- I hope it's not another cracked gearbox !
Does anyone know which is more expensive, - a reconditioned gearbox, or a reconditioned engine ( - bought in) ??

I think it’s back on the road again now. It was off for an engine failure. First don’t buy reconditioned engines, if one fails they salvage the good parts and build a new one in-house.

Voith and ZF are pretty much the same, about 5k for a box. Engine from Cummins hovers around 10k.

Thanks Adam, and thanks B.N. for your first post !
- I'm glad I asked now -- my guess would have been more for the gearboxes !

The gearbox was ok but the engine was just plain worn out and had a bad oil leak from a loose camshaft core plug. I ended up fitting 6 pistons, 6 liners, new camshaft, new followers, all new bearings and a new gear pump for the fuel pump. Here she is waiting to go back in.

DD 12, I like to paint my engine rebuilds as I still have pride in my work. Purple ( or as it's officially known Olympia Red) is my current favourite flavour
