KHA reg. bus on 303

Yesterday, Thursday 25 September 2025, Streetlite 32292 SK63 KHA is seen working the 303 from Worcester Crowngate to Kidderminster. It was new to First South Yorkshire in September 1963 and acquired by Diamond Bus in September 2023.

The KHA part of the registration brought back memories from 64 years ago when Midland Red Kidderminster garage operated brand new BMMO built D9 4850, 850 KHA (new 06/61) on the 315/316 route between Worcester, Kidderminster and Stourbridge. It was joined a little later by KR 4899 new 01/61, WR 4916, 916 KHA & 4917, 917 KHA new 04/61 and KR 4929, 929 KHA & 4930, 930 KHA new 06/61.

For just a few months in 1960, veteran 22 year old BMMO FEDD 2123, EHA 255 of 06/1938 vintage operated a duplicate 315 service from Kidderminster to Worcester for the local schools in the early morning and ran in tandem with 4850 until the FEDD was withdrawn 10/61. Delighted schoolboy passengers claimed that it overtook the D9 on more than one occasion along the A449 dual carriageway; it hasn't been verified, but I rather hope it was true! Shame that all the iconic FEDD's were scrapped and non survived into preservation.
