A foggy morning at Worcester Shrub Hill saw stock for the Settle and Carlisle Statesman charter arriving in the yard with Locomotive Services D1924 (47810) and 47828 in charge.
I was surprised that the train was double-headed as it was expected to be in top-and-tail mode; it led to an interesting manoeuvre as both locomotives ran light through platform 2 and then on to the rear of the train pushing it towards Wylds Lane so that the whole ensemble was in the right position to head north from platform 1.
An unexpected bonus was the arrival of the Bristol Temple Meads to Worcester Foregate Street train with HST 'Castle' set 43188 'Newport Castle' and 43186 'Taunton Castle' doing the honours. These veteran trains normally work in the South West and occasionally into Shrub Hill on a Sunday, but hardly ever on a Saturday. I took a number of photographs as these 45 year old machines are due for withdrawal by the end of 2023.
Finally, the HST 'Castle' set is seen at platform 2 waiting to depart with the 08-56 for Bristol and Westbury whilst 66010 passes though platform 1 with a loaded Margam to Round Oak steel train.
