Shrub Hill & Sherriff Street development

196106 is seen in Shrub Hill yard on Friday 30 December 2022 with the dominant seven storey development visible under construction in the background.

Another view of the development from the north end of Shrub Hill station Platform 2;

196002 and 196106 are seen with the sad sight of rubble which is all that is remaining of the old GWR goods shed recently demolished for the next phase of construction. Most surprised that this was allowed to happen as I was under the impression (wrongly?) that it was Grade II listed as part of Shrub Hill station complex and surrounding property.

Like you Tim I am surprised that such a tall development has been allowed.

I keep hearing about plans to demolish Elgar House to improve the view of the station from the front, but surely now there will be a tall modern building visible in the background instead!

I am a railway enthusiast but wouldn't want to live in one of the Sherriff Gate apartments currently being built, as there are constant arrivals and departures of GWR IETs and West Midlands Railways DMUs into and out of the Shrub Hill stabling sidings during the very early hours of the morning and late at night too. In addition a number of heavy freight trains pass through Shrub Hill station, or the yard, two or three hours either side of midnight which will probably send tremors through the strongest of structures. Worcester City Fire Brigade are stationed just across Tolladine Road and will undoubtedly use 'blues and twos' at any time of day or night in response to 999 calls. Night time earplugs a necessity?

Not sure what will happen to Elgar House when the next phase of development takes in the site of First Bus Padmore street garage and surrounding area; if it takes as long to start as the current building project which has been under discussion with local Councils since 2012 we can expect 2032 as the earliest year of commencement!

I have been informed that the sale of Padmore Street has fallen through.

I also think that the huge new development is far too big, coming down Tolladine Road makes me think that there is a heck of a lot of weight in the structure, which is built on derelict railway tracks, and would not have a great deal of foundations.

I agree that it would not be a very peaceful place to live!
