Re: Conductors Whistles in Times Gone By

I thought I would go off to ebay to see how common these bus conductor whistles were in the UK. The only bus conductor one listed is indeed a BMMO whistle, made by the famous Acme Whistle Company of Birmingham. It was this enterprising company which suggested to the Metropolitan Police that they sho...

Re: FMR - Service Reliability 2017 +

I'm pleased that First responded properly, not just with a set wording, but that it went into the issues. Proper response to complaints is very much in a bus company's interests and helps to diffuse the sort of complaints bandwagon we have seen elsewhere. I think it would be a bit problematical for ...

Re: DRM Staff Shortages

Adam
Thanks very much for taking the trouble to explain the rationale behind the 420 service. The insight you give is much appreciated. I see the financial reality. I note also that the route info on the website is kept up to date.

Re: DRM Staff Shortages

I'm fond of the 420 service because it reminds me of BMMO days. These country services must be more interesting to drive than boringly round and round Worcester housing estates. However I was surprised First Worcester continued their morning and evening service because it takes a vehicle from other ...

Re: Birmingham services

Sorry I should have included from 1969 the 165 which ran B'ham via Marston Green to Coleshill. There was no direct service from Coleshill to Chelmsley Wood at that time. It was probably the 161 etc and the 165 which morphed into the circular 161/171.

Re: Birmingham services

Ian I suspect that my booklet from 28/06/69 is too early for you, as it shows a 161 running via Castle Bromwich (Victory Hall) via Water Orton to Coleshill (Parkfield Road) and a 168 running via Castle Bromwich (The Green) via Bacons End to Coleshill (Parkfield Road). There had previously been a 171...

Re: Birmingham services

DD12, I've never worked in the bus industry, but I do find timetables fascinating. May I take the opportunity of thanking the webmaster for the ever-increasing number of old timetables on this site - someone has noticed. Back in 1969, I was at school but I found it a very long day, not helped that t...

Re: Birmingham services

My timetable booklet for 28 June 1969 until further notice shows, Mondays to Saturdays, the first journey from B'ham (Bus Station, Stand 25) on the 163 at 0540 arriving at Chelmsley Wood (Chelmsley Road/Helmswood Drive) at 0617, then the 193 leaving at 0551 arriving at 0628 at CW (Greenlands Road/He...
