Re: Service 420 - Knightsford Bridge bypass
I was told today by one of our members who has a very long memory that while the old bridge had the 7 ton weight limit buses were not permitted to cross with passenger on board. As a young boy, our member was taken to Bromyard on the bus, an SOS type, by his grandfather. At the bridge all the passen...

Re: Midland Red DDs - Worcester area
Thanks very much for your research, Adam - that's most interesting, particularly about the X72 which was news to me too. The same book also says that Malvern depot operated a 364 to Tewkesbury on Saturdays which was followed by a short-working X72 to Ryall. This seems a rather odd place to Terminat...

Wood Farm Camp (144) Service.
Mentioned in a different post ( Here ) was a service to Wood Farm Camp. I've been trying to find out more about this but it appears to be quite elusive. It would seem that sometime around the end of 1956 a short-working journey of Service 144 was added running on Tuesday mornings only from Wood Farm...

Re: Large Rail Contract Oct 2016 - Buses on Loan
Well, I'm sorry you're going to be disappointed. It has been confirmed today that the three buses are ones that have been on loan from Leicester, not Manchester, and they will be three StreetDecks. Fleet numbers 35188, 35191 and 35192 have been mentioned but we will have to wait until they turn up a...

Re: Withdrawn Coach 20201
The gearbox is now back in the coach and it has been moved back outdoors. However, it's not quite ready to return to service yet as one or two bits were borrowed to keep 20202 on the road and these need to be replaced first.

Re: Midland Red DDs - Worcester area
OK, found it! The following quote is from page 31/2 of "Round The Hills" by C.J. Davis, published by Omnibus Society in 1979. It is a superb record of bus services in Malvern and is highly recommended if you haven't seen it. In April 1966, as a result of staff shortages at Bromsgrove, Malv...

Re: Midland Red DDs - Worcester area
For a long time I was under the impression Malvern only ever ran three double-decks at a time, but I have read somewhere that for a short period they took on an extra 144 turn to cover for another depot that was having problems covering their share of the work. Now I need to remember where I read it...

Re: Midland Red DDs - Worcester area
Been looking at the Worcester allocations in the late 1960s. As I'm sure you know, ten DD12s came to Worcester in 1967 but it seems they replaced all but two D7s, and on this date in 1967 Worcester still only had 12 double-decks. Worcester Allocation 19th October 1967. One year later and the situati...
