On Tuesday 22nd January 2002, First Midland Red acquired F622RTC from First Bristol (Cityline) for use as a driver training vehicle. By this time all of the company’s Leyland Nationals Mk.I service buses had been withdrawn and their Leyland National training bus, fleet number 2051 (Registration number HHA101L), was almost 30 years old, so F622RTC was acquired to replace it.
Shortly after arriving at Worcester depot F622RTC was sent away to have dual control brakes fitted but there were problems in carrying out the conversion and the work was not completed. F622RTC was then parked up in a corner at Worcester depot for several months before returning to First Bristol at Hengrove depot in FirstGroup “Barbie2” livery.
