Service X71: Service History

Service X71 (1952–1956)

Operated by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited

From Saturday 24th May 1952, Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Limited (BMMO—Midland “Red” Motor Services) operated Service X71 between Malvern and Birmingham. This ran from Merebrook and Blackmore military camps for use by the armed serves as an occasional “forces leave” service.

As an occasional service it was not typically advertised in timetables, but operated to the requirements of the armed services regarding the length of their weekend leave. Journeys towards Birmingham would normally run on Friday or Saturday evenings, and journeys to the camps on Sundays or Mondays.

Service X71 was withdrawn in December 1956, at about the time the two military camps were closed.
