I must say how I like the look of the new Malvern services (from mid-October).

It looks like some very clever thinking and planning has gone into them - and quite "daring" too I'd say -
AND it appears to me to utilise existing buses in a much better way !

(When an operator has a successful group of services like the 44s, the operator sometimes is afraid of making changes - for fear of upsetting some of the existing users).

I hope that good publicity will be shoved through Malvern people's letter-boxes, and that service reliability is good, especially after 16.30.

I look forward to "looking at" the company's Malvern timetables booklet / pamphlet, when it's printed.

One gap in my understanding currently is - - how many X44s will there be (on a week-day) ?
- and why terminate at Link-Top rather than Great Malvern ?

- When your holiday is over Adam, and when you've got time, I'll be very glad if you choose to add the X44 timetable to those you have already put on this website !

My holiday doesn't even start for another two weeks so you may have a bit of a wait!

The X44 timetable is interworked with the 44 timetable and that is quite large. Also, I don't have it in digital format (yet) so I will need to type it in by hand... If I think of any more excuses I'll let you know!

Towards Malvern there will be X44 departures from Crowngate at 0545, 0620, 0850*, 1600, 1700*

The two journeys marked * start at County Hall (0829) or Royal Hospital (1635) and run through to Malvern. The route is more or less the same as Service 44 except that they run via Bromwich Road and do not serve Malvern Retail Park.

All X44 journeys terminate at Link Top then the vehicle will change to a Service 44 for a return journey to Worcester.

Running via Bromwich Road and not Malvern Road cuts the journey time from Crowngate to Lower Wick roundabout by two minutes, and missing out the Retail Park cuts the journey time between Powick Hospital Lane and Malvern Link by three minutes.

Return X44 journeys depart Link Top at 0710, 0740, 0800 and 1718. The 0710 journey continues to County Hall while the others terminate in Crowngate. The amount of time saved varies on these journeys between 5 and 7 minutes over the whole route, depending on the time of day.

Service X44 will not run on Saturdays or Sundays.

Few updates....

New Service 38A listed above will now run as Service X38

Service X50 will only be limited stop between Crowngate Bus Station and Red Hill as they will no longer be able to use the 551.

Service X43 and X44 will not be limited stop.

Thanks Adam - I had wrongly guessed the route of the X44 in Malvern !

I don't envy anybody driving the X44 the moaning when the bus goes sailing past the retail park!

Regarding a "back-up" vehicle with seat-belts for the Ledbury - Much Marcle school service (and 53802) -
- would one of WR's existing (bigger) Solos be able to squeeze along the route ? - - if so, perhaps one could be fitted with seat belts (?)

(From October 16th it might be possible to utilise one currently used on the 30/31) - (?)

I see there's a short piece in the Malvern Gazette this week with the usual old codger moaning about the impending loss of the paper ten-trip ticket, and how they don't have smartphones etc
Isn't this called progress? Just like how everybody now has central heating and doesn't have to go to the bottom of the garden for a pee? It's not like they have to pay for tickets most of the time anyway!
