RIAT 2017
RIAT 2017
Myself and Webmaster Harber of this parish will be attending the 2017 Royal International Air Tattoo on Sunday - fortunately I managed to get hold of some cheap tickets as the Sunday adult price is now £55
Never been before and years since I've been to an airshow of any kind so looking forward to this one - photos will appear here in due course

Re: RIAT 2017
Very much looking forward to this, just not the getting up early on a Sunday bit!
Re: RIAT 2017
Wonderful air display; haven't been for years. I can remember going to Greenham Common in the 1970s when you didn't need to book in advance, just turn up on the day and pay about £10 for the car and passengers.MattW wrote: ↑20:51 Thursday 13th July 2017Myself and Webmaster Harber of this parish will be attending the 2017 Royal International Air Tattoo on Sunday - fortunately I managed to get hold of some cheap tickets as the Sunday adult price is now £55

Dazzling international display of aircraft lined up for a mile on the ground and even more dazzling display of flying in the air; number one requirement is a good pair of sunglasses. Always took a good supply of bottled water and sandwiches or snacks as it sometimes took a while to get out of the car parks at the end of show.
A wonderful day out though, so looking forward to your photos!
Re: RIAT 2017
Well that is my first ever air show over and done with, and I must say it was absolutely fantastic. A huge big THANK YOU to MattW for suggesting it and taking me. The weather held right to the end be we did get a short shower timed perfectly with the end of the Red Arrow display.
We are now sat in the car park, pissing with rain, in the world's biggest traffic jam. If I ever get home I have over 1,000 photos to sort through!

Got out of the car park in the end. Downloading some 1,800 photos but they will take some time to sort out.
Meanwhile I have a question... How does this thing not fall out of the sky?

Re: RIAT 2017
UFO levitation technology?
Is it filled with helium?
Is it powered by stealth vitamin B2?
Somewhere within that shape is an aerodynamic design which makes the air travel further over the top surface than it does under the bottom surface of the 'wing' theoretically giving lift as in any conventional aircraft.
I haven't a clue how it flies without a tailplane giving stability at the rear especially as the B2 bomber is relatively short compared to its wingspan; my assumption is that it was built as an unstable design rather like the F117 Stealth Fighter nicknamed 'The Wobblin Goblin' which needs powerful computers to keep it in the air. The stability would seem to be generated by large flaps across the trailing edges of the wings.
Whatever, it an impressive piece of kit, very costly to produce at $2 billion each, but it can stealthily deliver up to 18 tons of ordnance, including thermo-nuclear devices, pretty well anywhere in the world with mid-air refuelling. Range on internal fuel is given as 6,900 miles. Only 20 have been built!

I haven't even confronted my computer with my memory card yet - but what an absoutely wonderful day
Re: RIAT 2017
Just uploaded 80 or so photographs to Flickr. These are just the photographs of things on the ground, photos of stuff in the sky will come later...
