I had a ride out to Littleworth today on the first-ever journey of the new short-working Service 382.

The bus is due to depart Crowngate so I arrived at the bus stop near my home on Bath Road at 1201 and was pleased to see the timetable information had been updated and the journey is correctly listed as running Wednesdays and Fridays only, arriving at my stop at 1206 and terminating at Littleworth Parrish Hall. It also shows a Service 32 will be hot on its heels arriving as 1211.

The traffic on Bath Road was very light so I hoped to get a clean photograph as the bus approached. But it didn't! At 1216 I was rudely woken by forum member WR1st blasting his horn at me as he drove a Service 332 in the other direction, but still no sign of either my 382 or the following 32. There were clearly problems in the City Centre.

The bus finally turned up two minutes later and I got my photograph before boarding the bus... Link to Photograph. There were already 9 passengers on the bus and expected most of them to get off around St. Peter's but to my surprise, the driver (forum member Red Midland) was not required to stop again until Norton Barracks.

Loadings were as follows... 2 to Norton Barracks, 1 to Norton Retreat, 4 to Littleworth Village, 2 to Littleworth Parish Hall terminus. Plus me.

We turned around in the Parish Hall grounds and I quickly got a photo Link to Photograph, doing my best not to hold up the bus as it was still running late. The last two passengers were also taking photos and I discovered they were both very happy Parish Councillors testing out their new service.

The return journey carried me and one Councillors from the Hall, 1 from Littleworth Village and 4 from Norton Barracks. There were also a few people getting on down Bath road but they don't count.

I like the Bath Road photo Adam.

.... So it looks like this working of the 382 is not going to need a double-decker then ! :)

I think they are a wee bit optimistic if they expect that to be in place by September!

Thanks Noggin for that link.
There's a welcome glimmer of hope there - - IF most or all of it happens, and FMR is the operator chosen to receive a new subsidy, I shall be well-pleased !

Lets hope the people who 'packed' the meeting actually get out and use the new services as and when they appear, rather than just moaning about it not being there!

..... and any additional services/ journeys MAY be on a short-term, - "use-it, or lose-it", basis.
