Minor changes Jan 2019

Post by DD12 » 19:19 Monday 7th January 2019

One or two minor timetable changes ahead, are affecting the S45 (possibly ! ), and the 31.

In a recent "Notices+Proceedings", changes to the S45 timetable are "notified", but it gives the date as September 2015 !! - so it could just amount to a correction / tidy-up of the paperwork only (?);

And on the First Worcestershire website is the announcement of timetable changes to the 31 -- from late January -- "to improve reliability".

However when one looks at the 31 on the "forthcoming timetables" page, the new one is only valid for about 4 to 5 weeks !

-- I find that a bit quirky, and wonder what the reason could be -

(planned roadworks ? -- or something to do with the university ?)

I see from signs on the roadside that the Welland - Upton road is to be closed for three weeks from Feb 4th. I'll try and find out some more information - I guess services will divert via Hanley Castle and stop at Panes in Upton so Welland may not be served at all.

I saw those signs too and I remember thinking to myself... Not my problem! 🤣

In the past buses have been diverted via Hook Bank, but I guess the exact location of the closure will decide this. If the road closure is only outside the new housing estate then it won't be a problem.

According to roadworks.org the actual closure is only outside the new houses at Tunnel Hill. To my mind that means that there will be no suitable through route for buses from Welland to Upton. In a car you'd just turn by the Inn at Welland, up to the top of Hook Bank, turn right and down the back lane into Upton, but I guess this is not suitable for buses, especially going over the old railway bridge by Clives Fruit Farm and then the narrow lane around the back of the Hanley Road carpark and into town. Welland could still be served by looping around Hook Bank and going back to Hanley Swan on each trip though.

I had assumed the closure was at the Wellend end when I suggested Hook Bank.

Signs in Welland at least have now been replaced with ones stating the actual location of the closure.
