"New" vehicles for Worcester?

Post by bmmoboy » 22:02 Monday 12th February 2018

There have been some rumours around the Canteen at Crowngate saying that Worcester are expecting 6 Mercedes-Benz Citaros from the depot(s) at Slough and Bracknell. Has anyone any more information.
I've never driven a Mercedes (apart from the awful 608's), but have travelled on Yarrantons vehicle many times, it gives a super ride with no rattles so if we are to receive some, they will be a vast improvement.

On another forum, it's reported that one of the Citaros is at First Leicester's garage.
It's an 07 reg -- future use and destination not known.

Having travelled on quite a few Citaros in various locations, I would definitely say they are superior to all other single decks in terms of comfort and ride quality (plus they sound pretty good from an enthusiasts point of view)
Would be excellent to see yet another new type at Worcester but then I question what buses they would see off  Hopefully not E300s if this does happen

Considering that the Optare's are now the oldest single decks at Worcester I would hope to see them replaced next... Worcester only have 8 now (not including the Village Link's one) and according to the October Bus graph only 4 are needed (Possibly 5 from March when service 31 is increased from 30/40 to every 20 mins)

So 6 Citaro's would be enough to take over the Optares operations with 1 spare...

However, as the Citaro's are not midi-buses would they not be a suitable replacement. Or would it not matter? :?

Thats a yes then

Last one I was on was on the Truro P&R back in November, but I'm not sure if that is operated by First. It was a fairly new vehicle, seemed decent enough.

I may be thinking a little outside the box here, however the 6 vehicle number got me thinking. After the 12 green Volvos are all in service, there will be odd vehicles left over. 67652/63-5, 67699 and 66305. Total 6 vehicles.......

Just saying!!!

I agree !
The Big Boss may well want our enviros for the Potteries ....
.... but then why would someone ask Adam not to confirm the Mercs ?

.... I would love FMR to gain more, profitable work !

Our old Solos have been mentioned in a couple of posts, so I thought I'd mention that First Bath are to receive 8 NEW ones, but as mentioned by Adam, any NEW buses are likely to be dependent on the local authorities being pro-active in tackling congestion and improving bus priorities.

( .... and not just talking about it ! )

The 6 Mercedes have now been increased to 8, once again garage gossip. The one at Leicester is there to be inspected by Thorntons with regard to reburbishment, which will include additional seating, as the Citaros have larger luggage pens for use around Heathrow airport. I have also been told that we will keep 4 Solos, the others, hopefully worst condition, departing for unknown destination. The Citaros are supposedly to be used on 35's, but as yet, I haven't found out if they will be receiving any special livery.
