It looks like withdrawn 67651 has been given a reprieve. Staff from Stoke arrived today to collect the Volvo that has been at Worcester for engine work and also 67651, which was withdrawn last week pending a transfer. However, it seems someone has realised there will be a vehicle shortage at Worcester in September with the new Herefordshire services so only the Volvo was sent.

67651 is still in withdrawn condition but expect it to be reinstated by the end of the month.

After refurbishment at Thornton's, it will go to Worcester. Sister bus 69435 is already at Thornton's."

Two things in the photos, of interest to me : -
One is that First appears to have already removed and replaced the lower side panelling - presumably to check for corrosion of the body frame (??)
(ie: rather than leave it to Thorntons to do);

and also , only one opening window vent each side, and "pods" on the roof which are presumably for a forced-air ventilation system (or air-conditioning ??) - - as a passenger, I hope the system works well !

Oh heck! Last time I drove coaches with fixed windows it was Plaxton Elite bodied Leopards and we usually ran with all the roof vents open in the summer as the forced-air ventilation system was somewhat feeble.

It seems strange that these 59 reg Volvos only have two opening window vents and a paradox that we have 'Euro 6 standard' buses presumably as Mr DD12 indicated with air-conditioning which I am led to believe uses quite a bit of extra fuel when switched on; therefore I wonder how the MPG will compare between the Volvo B7RLE and the Enviro 300 and 400 buses in the summer?

My guess is that many large cities will specify even more stringent NOX regulations and probably demand hybrids or pure electrics in the not too distant future. It all adds cost in a relatively marginal profit making industry and could eventually lead to service cuts unless HM Government steps in with green subsidies and other incentives.

As these Volvos are 59 reg, I assumed that they are or were Euro 5 spec, - if so, are they being converted/ adapted to Euro 6, does anyone know ?

That B7RLE has already been refurbished by Thorntons and is being returned to Worcester for painting

There isn't a paint shop at Worcester, Thorntons are doing inside and out. They are also converting them to Euro6, although some of that may be done in-house at Worcester.

66305 may be finally on the road in service tomorrow. The engine work has been finished and later tonight it will be taken for a test drive by the engineers. Fingers crossed!
