Now I seem to to remember it as an open day I did take few photos inside the garage https://www.flickr.com/photos/dofartsha ... 515749107/
Mind you it was (counts on fingers) 30 plus years ago

I would have loved to have a look around there. Is that a white Leyland National in the background?

I now have the following info about the day " 'Commercial Motor' records there having been an open day at Carlyle Works on Wednesday 3 September 1986. The date suggests it was primarily a business event rather than an enthusiast one"
With thanks to Andrew Gardener of BaMMOT
so what were you doing on the 3,Sep,1986,? please do not say that you were not born yet

I think your photograph is older than that. 5941 went on loan to BaMMOT on 22nd July 1984, and that become it's new home. It remained in the ownership of Central Works for several years but I don't think it returned there before it passed to BaMMOT ownership.
In 1986? I was 14-years old so still in school. I didn't know one end of a bus from the other back then.

Correct. Any artifact disposed of by the trust has to have certain guarantees given about its future, and the Trust is satisfied with Chris Hatton's. Although historically interesting this bus duplicates others in the Trust's care and would therefore be a long way down the list of vehicles to be worked on, added to which space is at a premium at a time when other vehicles were scheduled to arrive.943KHA wrote: ↑22:29 Sunday 17th July 2016Fear not, the bus is in safe hands. The Trust / Museum have let Chris Hatton acquire the vehicle for ongoing preservation and work is currently progressing well (not only was the engine seized but the floor was well rotten!) Given Chris's previous track record it will be well looked after.

Obviously the info has to be kept 'hush-hush' but one has now come, 1947 Birmingham Daimler CVA6 1486 (GOE 486) from the late Colin Hawketts' collection.
