It is quite different to most diesel locomotives, has a unique engine sound and pulls very well with Voith hydraulic transmission. The photo of GWR large prairie tank 4144 shows it struggling to move a 9 coach train away from Bridgnorth; at one point it slipped to a stop, but recovered with much steam from the cylinder cocks and uncharacteristic black smoke and crept very slowly up the gradient out of the station in a southerly direction.

Was sorry to miss this event, hopefully it'll be even better next year with the move to Kidderminster.
