Two new coaches with 17 registration numbers.

Post by TimBrown » 14:55 Tuesday 20th June 2017

Thanks to Adam for adding this operator to the list of local independents.

I may be months behind their introduction into service, but on Friday last I saw two 17 reg coaches belonging to Commandery Coaches in Bilford Road. One was a full sized Scania with very edgy styling, pointy LED headlights and similar red angled cluster at the rear.

The other was a Mercedes midi-coach painted metallic gunmetal grey with markings something like 'executive'. Didn't manage to log the reg nos as I was driving car into town.

Today I found a photograph on the internet which shows the registration of the new Scania coach as YN17 OLX. Bodywork believed to be by Irizar.

Also saw the gunmetal Mercedes midi-coach near the New Chequers again this morning and managed to note reg. no. which is VN17 CCO, bodywork as yet unknown.

Sorry, no pictures yet!

YN17OLX is A Higer on a Scania chassie
YN17CCO is a Turas 900 on a Mercedes Chassis

Thanks for the excellent pictures and update on bodywork makers.

Commandery Coaches always appear smart and clean with a fleet of modern vehicles. Though plain, the livery is distinctive and the large vinyl fleet name with colourful pennant design along the flanks lift the image making their coaches instantly recognisable.

I know that this company cater for private hire day trips, and I assume they have a number of school contracts as I see the coaches out and about in the peak period. I have also seen Commandery Coaches working from Shrub Hill station on Rail replacement services. Do they do any European work across The Channel?

My wife belongs to a club that has used Commandery Coaches for day trips and UK holidays for a number of years. Their coaches as Tim remarks are always very smart and well turned out and they seem to be very reliable and efficient.

I recall a few years ago they had a contract with nPower from their offices at Warndon and I think probably undertook similar work for other businesses in the Worcester area. I did hear that the business was for sale sometime ago as the proprietor was wanting to retire but I don't know whether that happened or perhaps is still for sale.

One coach appears to park overnight at Panes Garage in Upton-on-Severn, I guess for a school contract.

I'm not sure it's for a school contract as it seems to be there in the holidays as well. I believe the driver lives in Upton and it's just a mutually convenient arrangement all round.

I've been working short 551 today and the grey coach has been parked near Norton Bridge each time I've passed... Driver taken it home during the off-peak period maybe?

I like that. Nice to have your own vehicle.
