61306 'Mayflower' at Shrub Hill 30 March 2019 on Charter from Euston.

Steam in Worcester today. Gresley designed Class 5 mixed traffic B1 locomotive was built by North British Locomotive Company, Glasgow and entered service in 1948 with British Railways Eastern Region. It was withdrawn 09/67 and immediately acquired for preservation, named 'Mayflower' and subsequently used on many main line charters. A complete overhaul was completed earlier this year and it looked and sounded in fine fettle today.

Bringing up the rear is 33025 a Type 3 diesel electric locomotive built by Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company in 02/61 as D6543 for Southern Region of British railways and renumbered 33025 in 12/73. It has an 8 cylinder 1,550 BHP Sulzer 8LDA28 engine and Crompton main generator and traction motors giving a maximum allowed speed of 85 MPH. It is now owned by West Coast Railways and based at Carnforth.

And this shot taken at 5-45 pm today, near the site of long since demolished Fernhill Heath station, of the train returning to London Euston via Kidderminster and Walsall - steam with diesel assistance!

Thanks, Tim - some excellent photos of a loco quite rare to our area.

Spot the error!
Mr Gresley wasn't the designer of B1 class of locomotive, the man responsible was Mr Edward Thompson my apologies to all.

Beautiful Tim. I've not seen that one here before - I didn't realise it wasn't named until it was preserved either..
