Cavalcade 08/05/18 and Pullman 09/05/18 at Worcester Shrub Hill

A Cavalcade passed through Worcester Shrub Hill on Tuesday 8 May 2018 en route from Severn Valley Railway Kidderminster to Swanage for a Diesel Gala.
45041 'Royal Tank Regiment' was built at Crewe 06/62 and withdrawn 05/88.
The 'Peaks' were used regularly on express trains operating from the North West and North East through Birmingham to the South West for most of their working lives. Equally at home on passenger and heavy freights they were well regarded at Saltley depot. Though rated at 90 MPH I have many timed runs with 11 coach trains running at up to 97 MPH with occasional runs at the magic 100 MPH so they were no slouches. This one is based on the Midland Railway at Butterley.

The 100 MPH rated Class 50 locomotives were built by English Electric at Newton-le-Willows, 50031 'Hood' was new 07/68 and 50049 'Defiance' was new 12/68. both were withdrawn 12/68. They are owned by The Fifty Fund based at SVR Kidderminster and passed for main line running.

Today, Wednesday 9 May 2018 the Belmond British Pullman train arrived in Worcester Shrub Hill at 13-20 with a special service from London Victoria. Those on board have paid about £400 each for the privilege of travelling and dining in opulent luxury. With the whole train in matching chocolate and cream livery it certainly looks the part even with modern Spanish built class 67 locomotives each end in 'top and tail' mode.

Some of the splendid veteran coaches are 90 years old or more and, amazingly, still fit for main line use at up to 75 MPH. 'Ibis' was built in 1925 by the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Co. at Washwood Heath and 'Lucille' was built in 1928 by Metropolitan Cammell Carriage & Wagon at nearby Saltley.

8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

50s must be one of my favourites! Mind you any old diesel is good for me, must have been the influence of all those Bradford Barton photo albums I used to look at as a kid.
