A few shots of Castle Class 5043 'Earl of Mount Edgcumbe' hauling a Charter train from Tyseley to Oxford through Worcester Shrub Hill this morning. The driver could certainly handle this locomotive as he started the 10 coach 350 ton train out of the station in fine style - lovely double-chimney exhaust note and rapid acceleration towards Norton junction.
It returns this evening, Saturday 8 October, at 19-00 hours, so if anyone is near Shrub Hill and wishes to see a superb GWR locomotive in action now is your chance! It returns to Tyseley via the Kidderminster and Stourbridge line.

Thanks, Tim. Great pictures of a superb engine.
We were lucky enough to get seats on the first Flying Scotsman special on the SVR a couple of weeks back. Very enjoyable and quite an experience but, personally, I would have much preferred a trip behind a Castle. I am also a great fan of the 'Hall' class, probably because I saw more of them in my formative years travelling between Malvern Link and Worcester.
The tree on the Link Common beside the railway, the first on the left on the other side from the station, under which we did our train spotting, is still there. It was ideal because it was near enough to the Worcester Road to keep an eye on the buses too, both Midland Red and Bristol whose services from Gloucester and Cheltenham terminated in the station yard opposite.
