New D/D's in November.

Post by ANDREW » 09:41 Wednesday 24th November 2021

Bustimes have a new E400 listed as SK71CLJ . Also mentioned is SK71CLN although vehicle type is not specified. Bus pass time me thinks . . . . . . :)

Thanks very much Andrew, that's a surprise !!

- - whether or not these are going to be EXTRA double-deckers remains to be seen, as Johnsons tends to trade-in "fairly young" vehicles, I believe.

Earlier in the year, I took a ride on one of their new Optare DDs, on the 150B from Worcester to the Cookhill area, ( it was very high quality inside, having been ordered for "Green Line" ).

I'm slightly worried that if Johnsons / Whittles get EXTRA DDs, they will take some of First Worcester's DD schools work ( - Whittles have applied to increase their operating license by four vehicles).

I also think it might be a shrewd investment to buy (some) new Euro 6 (diesel) double-deckers ( - with around 75 seats) - while they are available.

P.S. - Possibly plus better range + / or top speed for diesel DDs compared to the alternatives !!

Both confirmed as d/d's. I saw CLJ working Stratford locals around lunch time today , having missed out on CLN in Redditch earlier as it was already on it's way to Birmingham. It looks like CLN found it's way to Worcester later in the day also .

I'm sad to see that Johnsons have "traded-in" their three older Alexander E400s, thus leaving only 4 DDs, - - but I'm relieved to see one on the 150 B/C in Worcester still, today (according to the tracker) !!
