Hi, does anyone know the registration number of the DMS Fleetline that was allocated to Coalville garage in circa 1984? I'm pretty sure there was only one DMS there

My records, gleaned from PSV Circle news-letters, are showing that DMS 640, MLK 640L with Midland Red East fleet number 2640 was operated by Coalville garage from 08/83 until 10/84 when it was transferred to SS Southgate Street garage.

Interesting dates. I only remember one DMS being there and it was in Midland Fox livery. I dont remember it being there in Midland Red livery. 8/83 seems a bit early.

I was looking through the archive on this site and found where it says "2893 KUC 908P" and "2898 KUC 298P" as allocated to Coalville 11/83 and 10/83 respectively. Is it likely that any one of these three DMS's were painted red and yellow but with Midland Red lettering instead of the Midland Fox logo prior to the rebanding?

Bearing in mind that Midland Red East changed to Midland Fox on 1 January 1984 it is possible that 2640 ran in Midland Red East livery (whatever that was at the time), it had been in store for twelve months prior to allocation at CE on 08/83 if my records are correct.

Assumed I had found the one DMS working from CE and missed the other two DMS buses which worked out of CE as below;

2892 KUC 908P Store 10/83, CE 01/84 then WS 03/85.
2898 KUC 928P Store 10/83, CE 04/84 then SS by 11/86.

Please bear in mind I live in Worcester and didn't travel to Leicester during the 1980s so not conversant with the liveries carried by these buses. My interest was much later as a follow-up to the Midland Red Allocations and Fleetlist for buses and coaches 3000 - 6473 built between 1946 and 1972 book, first published in 2008 by BaMMOT which became the Transport Museum at Wythall.

Perhaps The Leicester Transport Heritage Trust people would be better able to verify the dates from their personal records?

Just had a look on the internet and all three photos show 2640 in Midland Fox livery, but none of these shots are dated. Also found a link to a Facebook site with interesting observations on Midland Fox.

Excellent info, thank you. I definately knew one DMS had turned up close to the rebranding already painted in MF livery. If your date of the 1/84 is correct for 2892, it will prety much be that one that I can remember. It was one of the first few at CE in the new livery which I thought was pretty cool as a kid, and was interesting being a "London decker" as it was referred to by my dad.

As for 2640, it may have been allocated to CE on paper, but whether it actually ended up there for any significant time is another matter. I dont remember any DMS being there before the rebranding. A bit like Leopard 212 was supposed to be at CE but seemed spend the vast majority of its time at Swadlincote.
