I have now been given the OK by First to publish the Hay Festival timetables, so here they are... LINK

Like last year, the first Thursday and Friday runs a reduced service so if you plan to travel on a Thursday or Friday please check the dates in the Key carefully. There are also variations on the two Sundays.

Details of fares have been published on the Hay Festival website here... LINK.
The fares are the same as last year, plus a new 10-trip ticket for £35.

The wording for concessionary passes is a little misleading. The £3.00 single and £4.50 fare is for journeys between Hereford and Hay only. From Worcester to Hay the fare is the same as for children, which is mentioned on the page but isn't very clear.

A little bit of additional information about the Hay services...

The advertising space on Trident 33405 and StreetDecks 35156 and 35157 has been let to the main event sponsors for the period of the festival, so wherever possible these three vehicles are to be used.

Obviously this will not always be practical so other vehicles are certain to be used at times, including one single-deck on the first two days while doubles are still required for the schools, but expect to see these three most days.

The duty rota for next week has been published and it looks like I have the first X99 of the year (the 0940 depart from Worcester on Thursday).

The first Thursday and Friday (25th and 26th May) are operated to a reduced timetable while the festival is setting up, so the 0700 and 0745 do not run on these days, and I think this X99 journey will be run using a single-deck on the first two days while the double-decks are still used on school services.

The X98 runs at the same departure time throughout the festival period and this will be operated by the lovely Emma on the first day, while I'll be working the X98 on the second day. I believe the X98 is run with a double-deck every day, but if you're keen to ride this route with a double-deck I suggest you wait until the weekend to make sure.

Our longest serving member of staff, Mick, will be working the late shift on the first day.

I have now done my two days of riding the X98/99, - most enjoyable :)

I've now fulfilled my ambition of riding a DD both ways between Bromyard and Worcester - very scenic; and it's really interesting how different the view is - and how much more one sees from the top deck.

I very much hope the X98 will be repeated next year, -

Thanks First !

Well, that's it. All over for another year. I've just got home after working the reduced Monday service in Enviro300 67650... Missing it already!

My impression is that the first 4 days when the sun was out were very busy, but from Bank Holiday Monday when the weather turned it seemed to go quiet, and I don't think it was as busy as last year.

Last year there were unrelated events in the town and on the field by the bridge before we entered the town. These were not there this year, so I guess this added to the feeling that things were quiet.

Anyway, I now have two days off work to recover... Good night!
