Withdrawn Coach 20201
Re: Withdrawn Coach 20201
Well the gearbox did turn up on Friday, and I did see it, so now I believe it!
Work should start later in the week, or maybe next week, so hopefully 20201 will be reinstated and back on the road soon.

Re: Withdrawn Coach 20201
20201 was moved indoors earlier in the week and is now being made ready for the gearbox to be fitted.
And here it is...

Re: Withdrawn Coach 20201
The gearbox is now back in the coach and it has been moved back outdoors. However, it's not quite ready to return to service yet as one or two bits were borrowed to keep 20202 on the road and these need to be replaced first.
Re: Withdrawn Coach 20201
I wonder if this is the first time in it's 16-17 year life, that the gearbox has been out (and presumably the engine too ?) - lets hope it's survived the "operation".
Thinking of it's 12 litre engine (?) - do First constantly check/ monitor the fuel consumption of individual buses ?
Re: Withdrawn Coach 20201
I've only seen this coach parked in the rear corner, so far.
I assume it's still waiting for parts (?)

Re: Withdrawn Coach 20201
The gearbox went back in and it was all set to go back into service but then it was discovered that during the long spell off the road the suspension has developed a fault...
Re: Withdrawn Coach 20201
I had a bit of a shock today... I saw 20201 moving under its own power. More of a shock when I noticed it was being driven my a member of the driving staff and not an engineer.
I spoke to an engineer and was told it went back on the road earlier this week.
Wasn't expecting that!

Re: Withdrawn Coach 20201
Nor me !
It's nice to have the pair still.
- now how about a bodywork "polish" ?
- it's no use repainting them, because that will put the kiss of death on the mechanicals !
(I always remember 4079 THA79; - freshly repainted, and then in the Lichfield "scrapyard" a few weeks later .... it would have been perfect for preservation !)
Re: Withdrawn Coach 20201
Well this poor coach is having more bad luck... It has been off the road for about a week with engine problems, and there was talk about using parts from 20202 to fix it.
However, in the early hours of this morning 20202 suffered heavy damage to the rear axle suspension in a collision near Oxford, while working an overnight rail contract. It now looks like 20201 will be used for parts to fix 20202, and by the time I finished work tonight a number of parts had already been removed.
Once again the future of 20201 looks in doubt.
