Had 20-minutes to spare in Hay today so I went in search of 53046. I knew it was on the road as I'd seen it earlier in the day, so I stood on the corner and waited. After a few minutes I was greeted by legendary bus photographer Ken Jubb, and while we chatted about photography and buses 53045 went past so I photographed that again. The next one wasn't due for another 10-minutes so I left Ken there to pop to a shop and get a drink. Mistake, as just as I stepped out the shop 53046 went past!
Missed again. Four days left to get it.

Clearly the Hay Festival is becoming a popular attraction for transport enthusiasts!
Re: ex-Worcester Solos in Hay
Met the owner of Herdman Coaches tonight, Mr Paul Herdman. He told me he acquired the Solos direct from First and he and his staff collected them from Exeter about two months ago. He also said there are two more back at his yard as spares... It wasn't until later that I wondered if they are spare as in reserve fleet, or there for spare parts to keep the others on the road.
Re: ex-Worcester Solos in Hay
Probably a bit of both judging by his approach to 'fleet' livery!

A rare bus photo from around the Hay parts identifies one of the spares as First Essex 53120 EO02NFA and shows Ex Worcester First 53046 VU03YJY in off duty form
