Wrightbus on brink of closure.

This snippet noted in the Business section of The Daily Telegraph yesterday Saturday 21 September 2019. Whatever you think about their buses it is very bad news for their 1400 workers. In a depressed part of the UK there is little chance of finding skilled work if the company does go to the wall.

The sad fact is that 1,200 skilled and semi-skilled workers will be made redundant if a buyer cannot be found in the next few days. This is disastrous in an area of the UK that already has very high unemployment. When Mrs May botched the election in June 2017 and lost her majority she gifted the DUP £1 Billion (£1,000,000,000) in exchange for support of the 10 DUP Members of Parliament who effectively kept her in power. Why then are the DUP silent and not offering to back Wrightbus and help to retain one of this country's ever decreasing manufacturing industries? A lot of duplicity abounds in politics lately and not just in Westminster it seems; Tory austerity edicts since the toxic loan banking crisis of 2008 and cuts of Transport Grants to County Councils is now biting hard with loss of marginal town and country bus services, reduction of many fleets and very few orders for new buses affecting Alexander-Dennis and Optare too.

When I walk along the main roads in my local area the traffic is incessant at most times of the day and not just at peak periods; just where are all the cars coming from and going to? Makes me wonder if buses are gradually becoming obsolete just when polluting car owners ought to consider using public transport.
