Worcester Fleet Movements mid/late 2019

Post by AdamH » 19:49 Tuesday 13th August 2019

I know there is already a live thread on this subject, but it has become quite long and in the light of new information I think it's time to start a fresh one.

I bumped into the First Midlands MD at the weekend and tonight he has kindly sent me a summery of planned fleet movements for Worcester. As always he points out that these are current plans and plans do change.

This is a direct quote from his email...
Here goes with fleet movements as they stand this evening, and still subject to some change perhaps. There’s some uncertainly about individual Trident numbers but we aim to remove all remaining.

Firstly 53065 comes in from Oldham. We’re still debating how many Solos we’d like to retain in Worcester – that depends on some service changes currently being finalised.

Volvo B9TLs coming into Leicester will displace 32643-6 to Worcester to remove 33401/2/4/5 to Essex. The Streetdecks are remaining in Worcester.

Then it’s 11 Citaros from Hampshire to remove 66358-6 to Leicester plus two others – likely to be 42892/3 but may include 33403.

68507/559 are withdrawn due to contract completion.

Shout if any of that doesn’t stack up!

Nigel
Thank you Mr Eggleton for your input.

Correct me if im wrong but does that mean there will be a decrease of dds in worcester? And will all the citaros be the same type, or will we be getting a mixture of the two variants like before

It will be a shame to see 33404 go as it is in heritage livery.

it would be nice if they can get a Citaro and a B9TL painted in to Heritage liverys

sounds like good fleet movements but they need to upgrade the services so that you can live in a city rather than running it like a small town

I second that it would be nice to keep the midland livery alive in this area

In total there are 13 Citaro's left at Slough. The 13 comprises of 11 newer type + 2 older type. So it would make sense for WR to receive the batch of 11 newer ones. I presume the 2 older ones will either be Withdrawn or kept as Reserves for whatever is replacing the citaro fleet at Slough! :D

Thank You, Mr. Eggleton (and Adam) :D

Just a couple of questions, what about 32066/7? Will they be Withdrawn & if so will they be repalced?

Also if Leicester needs newer/cleaner buses to meet the CAZ requirements why would 42892/3 or 33403 be down as potential transfers to Leicester? Or have I misread that and really they could/will go somewhere else? :?

Also, I would have thought it would make more sense for out StreetDecks to go to Leicester so then they have a full fleet of StreetDecks (Meaning only one DD type - easier for maintenance, etc.) and we have the B9TLs that are transferring in.
(Of course there is more too it than that but its just one of my thoughts  )

No mention of 32066/7 only that the Tridents would go, so I can only assume they are to stay. Not sure how compatible they are with the newer Volvos that are already at Worcester (Salt Road and Centros) or the double-decks due to arrive though.

I agree the Darts/Trident move to Leicester seems odd. I'm about to email Mr. E to thank him for the information so I will query that.

Thanks, I had forgotten that 32066/7 are Volvo B7TLs! :)

Loads of stuff to think about and chat about, above -- -- Thanks Adam, and Mr.Egg !

I am VERY sad that we are going to lose 33401-5, but it was going to happen eventually.
-- I was hoping that when the time came we would get c.2012 double-deckers as replacements, -- not older than that.

But, like the Tridents, 32643-46 looked very smart (for a long time) in their original "barbie" livery (IMO), and I think our MD will be able to get at least 3 of them repainted when they are at WR.
Theoretically, he might be able to get 32643 repainted in a red heritage livery, to replace 33404, -- but it would "sit" less well with the Gemini's styling (IMO).

My guess is that they will be more reliable than the Tridents, -- and the Worcester maintenance team have proved themselves very capable with 32066,67.

I think much of what we are discussing at the moment is being affected by what's going on at the top of First Group, and it looks to me like the age profile and value of the buses at Leicester, Potteries, and Worcester (= First Midlands) is being adjusted to reflect the turnover/ profit (etc), at each operating company, prior to a sale (?) -- -- this MIGHT lead to some "bizarre" short-term allocations like old Darts and 33403 going to Leicester (?)

Another reason for 33403 being becoming based at Leicester MIGHT be as a DD trainer (?)

Adding to the "mix" of who gets what, and what goes where, is the news that Potteries is to get 10 Enviro 400 Hybrids from Glasgow, which they will convert to diesel !

I am very glad that we are going to keep our StreetDecks !

UPDATE ! -- I've just seen your update at 10.46 Adam, - Thanks !
