As far as I know, the project is still continuing but has been delayed a bit due to 44511 jumping the queue.

She's a runner! Had a couple of nights on it and started straight away. Hopefully it'll be going back to Stoke soon. 44511 is awaiting parts so I've pulled the engine assembly out of 53042 and I'm prepping it to go into 53044.

That's incredibly good Mechwr26, I'm VERY impressed !!

- perhaps First aught to buy that vacant warehouse opposite the garage, and set you up there as an engine overhaul unit, with a couple of apprentices ! :)

There was talk some time ago of setting up an engine and transmission shop in our storage unit next door but nothing came of it. To be honest most of our rebuilds are done in the chassis so the vehicles need to be up in the air or over a pit.

67602 rolled up on a low-loader today for an engine swap.

Engine is out of 67602. Unfortunately I've been told that they don't want the engine rebuilt, although we have all the parts in stock to do this. I'm to find and fit a second hand engine probably from a Daf truck.

..... That's interesting; - presumably that will be a similar Cummins engine, rather than something more "exotic" like a DAF engine ??

(I don't think they make DAF engines theses days do they ?)

Im hoping there is a little sarcasm here! Relating back to the B7TL engine into a B7RLE space ... Either way, Im sure MechWR will find a way to fit it!

I did not intend any sarcasm in my post above.
- On further consideration, common sense suggests it will be a Cummins.

It's a new idea to me ---- taking an engine from a truck, and putting it in a bus !
- and I've no idea how many of today's truck manufacturers use versions of engines that are also used in buses.

In the back of my mind was the memory of Leyland DAF, and the possibility that some engines were built under-licence as "DAFs". - ( - TIM ? :D )

If our friendly mechanic is successful with this endeavour, the company will be asking him to fit a Subaru boxer engine next ! - (That IS a little bit sarcastic !)

Some of our older forum members will remember that Midland Red were "always" experimenting and fitting non-standard engines and gearboxes etc (as recorded on this website).

They're always a good fit in a VW 'bus', but maybe not in a full-size one
