Re: Eurostar Service
Avignon is a very historic city with an ancient wall completely encompassing it. The 'pier' is what remains of the ancient bridge across the Rhone, made famous by the song "Sur le Pont d'Avignon" which I guess most people of my vintage learned at school. There's also a papal palace because...

Eurostar Service
Went with Johnsons last week on a holiday to the South of France based in Avignon. A somewhat complicated itinerary involved the tour coach going the whole way empty, apart from carrying our luggage, on the two day journey to Avignon with us having a different Johnsons coach to take us for an overni...

Re: any new vehicles due
Johnsons have posted a video on Facebook showing their two new Scania Finesse 53 seat coaches - YP18 SUX and YP18 SUY. (When I see registrations like the latter I still think of them as being Worcestershire and I guess I always will! Remember AB, NP, UY and WP?)

Fear not about the layout - they zoom up very well and I'm sure I'm not the only on who finds them of great interest. Many thanks.

Re: First Worcester Summer Excursions
A welcome initiative and I hope it pays off. The E1 reminds me a bit of the Sunday Evening 'mystery' trips from Malvern in the 1950's. They always went to Gloucester and usually the same pub, the mystery being which of the two or three routes would they take to get there but the regulars wouldn't ha...

Re: any new vehicles due
According to their May Snapshot newssheet received yesterday with their Autumn, Christmas and Spring 2019 holiday brochure, Johnsons have invested half a million pounds in two new Scania 53 seat coaches and three new Torneo minibuses. The accompanying pictures look as though the Scanias are 67 reg s...

Re: How the Other Half Live!
It's been the same for a long time. I can remember a trip to London around 15 years ago. Going off peak and booking a long way ahead I paid under £20 for a first class return from Birmingham. As we tucked in to our included Great British Breakfast, I could see the ticket of the businessman sitting o...

How the Other Half Live!
For those who think that bus fares are expensive, how about this? Yesterday Mrs C and I did a day trip to Edinburgh by train, Fortunately, we booked a couple of months in advance and our First Class tickets from Birmingham set us back £74 for the two of us in each direction with our Senior Railcards...

Re: Charter Breakdown
Pathfinder Tours had hoped to organise a re-run of the original tour aborted last month but this has not proved possible so they have offered a complete refund, less, understandably, the catering costs or a free trip in the same class seating on a future diesel hauled excursion. I think we shall pro...

Re: Charter Breakdown
Thanks, Tim. As you say, the loco seemed to be OK until it failed, having travelled from Newport pretty much to time. It did struggle to pick up speed on departure from Kidderminster and Stourbridge Junction so, on reflection. maybe the driver should have realised something was amiss so would have b...
