Re: 33404 - Engine/Gearbox swap
It was the idle control solenoid that failed  How embarrassing and annoying for me as I hate having comebacks in jobs like this. Luckily we found the issue within a few minutes and as I have a big pool of spare bits and pieces it didn't take long to sort out. It's been fine since and goes quit...

Re: 33404 - Engine/Gearbox swap
And here's the new one, almost ready to go back in Items swapped over include: compressor, hydraulic pump, fuel pumps, engine wiring loom and engine electronic control unit. Plus a steam clean and a lick of paint. Also need to swap the gearbox ECU once its all back in

Re: FMR Fleet Movements
67650 hasn't been sent to Stoke. Brace yourselves for a change of plan... I think it went today, Wednesday 😒 Shame to see it leave as I've just rebuilt the engine in it. The E300's are the best buses we have for reliability and are easy to work on and I'll be sad to see them go. 66305 hasn't really...

Re: FMR Fleet Movements
We're apparently having 12 B7 Volvos from Leicester... These are the 59 plate ones originally from Bristol. They're single deckers. They were rough when they went to Leicester and it will be interesting to see what they're like now. Let's hope they're better than the Darts we had dumped on us recently

Re: Darts 41502 and 42893
The visiting Volvo is 66964. She's here for an engine rebuild but I'm trying to fit it in between other engine swaps and covering other colleagues shifts, so she may be here for a bit.

Re: FMR Fleet Movements
A bus failing an Mot test on a loose seat belt or a wheelchair sticker missing is no indication of its ability to trundle 80 miles up the M6 reliably.

Re: FMR Fleet Movements
And most of us are not looking forward to their return 😃 - is that because you expect to have to do a lot of work on them, to bring them up-to-scratch ?? Well the first one has arrived ( 42893) and after an inspection it's now awaiting a load of repairs. I fitted an almost new engine to this bus be...

Re: Darts 41502 and 42893
Yep 45102 has come over to us for another engine. Unfortunately it also needs engine mounts, a new turbo and nobody at Stoke noticed that the gearbox was only hanging in by 2 bolts instead of the usual 12. This has resulted in the gearbox case becoming detached from its bell housing and the box is r...

Re: Visiting Buses at Worcester
Some smaller DAF and Dennis trucks use the Cummins euro 3 isb engine which is also fitted to the E300. Lovely simple and reliable engines which I really enjoy rebuilding. Almost all major truck manufacturers build their own engines nowadays , DAF, Volvo, Scania, Mercedes etc. Renault and Volvo share...
